P T TLNG Company Limited (P T TLNG), wholly owned by P T T Plc., Thailand’s national oil and gas company, retained Zentech Engineering to
design a USD 400 million loading platform for the P T TLNG Receiving Terminal Expansion Project – Phase II located off the coast of Map Ta
Phut, Rayong, Thailand. Zentech optimized the substructure and superstructure to accommodate a capacity of 125,000-266,000 cubic meters.
Dynamic analysis was performed with SACS for each structure – including loading platform, breasting dolphins, mooring dolphins, and trestle
– under operating, extreme, seismic, accidental, and mooring conditions. When changing ground conditions in the pile and soil interaction
module, analysis took less time compared to cumbersome manual calculations. The optimized profile design reduced material costs.
The operator of an oil field in the Congo requested a EUR 300,000 study of the risks of explosion on three oil rigs. Urbica used 3D laser
scanners to produce a comprehensive survey of the facilities. Conducting a 3D laser survey only required two people to make one trip to the
Congo, rather than five or six round trips for a traditional survey, which translated into a huge savings.
Bentley Pointools processed the point-cloud data then generated a 3D model for each platform that displayed as-built construction, as well
as the location of gas, oil, water, and electricity. The operator used the 3D model to carry out a 3D blast simulation, verifying confined and
sensitive areas on the rigs. Using the models to plan installation of new equipment limited shutdown to days rather than weeks.
