The Terang Sirasun Batur gas field is located about 100 kilometers north of Bali, Indonesia. As part of field development, BW Offshore
retained Kavin Engineering And Services Private Limited to perform detailed design of the process, piping, mechanical, structural, electrical,
and instrumentation for the conversion of the floating production unit Joko Tole into a floating production storage and off-loading unit.
The USD 55 million project was constrained by limited space on the tanker. Kavin designed an integrated pipe rack that reduced space
usage by 30 percent and weight by 1,000 tons. The integrated structural modeling interface between STAAD.Pro, SACS, and ProSteel
reduced modeling man-hours by 30-40 percent. Clash detection and resolution with Bentley Navigator eliminated rework during
construction, enabling completion ahead of the six-month schedule and improving profitability by USD 2 million.
Converting a mobile offshore drilling unit into a mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) costs approximately USD 100 million, or about one-third as much as constructing a new MOPU. This was a cost-effective strategy for development of a field where flow was expected to last
about eight years. The Indian Register of Shipping (IRCLASS) was retained to classify and certify the transformation.
IRCLASS used SACS to accurately model and analyze all pre-service and in-service conditions of the MOPU, as well as to verify the analysis
report submitted by the client and perform the code check. SACS reduced the man-days required for the review by 50 percent, helping to
complete the entire task within four months instead of 10 months. This ultimately reduced the overall project delivery cost.
