The Guangdong Qingyuan Pumped Storage Power Station in Qingyuan City was constructed for China Southern Power Grid by the Guangdong
Hydropower Planning & Design Institute. The power station represented an investment of USD 0.8 billion and has an installed capacity of
1,280 megawatts. It consists of four vertical, single-stage, reversible, mixed-flow pump turbines – with single unit capacity of 320 megawatts
– in underground factories.
Using Bentley software, the sophisticated 3D design of the power station facilities created an information model across all disciplines. The
information model was delivered to the owner in the i-model data format and is being used in implementation and maintenance. Substantial
advantages included a one-month shortened schedule, a 90 percent reduction in errors, and a 60 percent reduction in labor costs.

In addition to employing contractors using design tools from multiple vendors, QGC also needed to track 700,000 pieces of equipment from
2,000 wells, 22 plant facilities, four water treatment plants, pipelines, and the Curtis Island liquefaction terminal. Working with Bentley
engineers, QGC developed an engineering data warehouse leveraging eB Information Manager. QGC can now convert design data into a
common i-model format, which improved collaboration and traceability of changes across the project.
