Although this USD 10 million project was proposed as an entertainment complex on the beach at Sandestin, Florida, it was also used to
explore a design process that allowed the project team to more clearly understand and select design options by modeling within a hybrid
data environment. By focusing on what matters most, the team improved efficiency both qualitatively and quantitatively.
MicroStation provided a unique ability to express, develop, and deliver a high performing design leveraging hybrid data types, all within
the context of a model. The project team of Mark O’Bryan, Hugo Mulder, and Rob Snyder realized a complex design through a rich and
immersive modeling environment that helped them more clearly realize a final design.

The goal of this BRL 15 million project by Poyry Tecnologia and Orb Design was to design a green building using sustainable design principles
according to LEED certification requirements. A partnership between Petrobras and the Chemistry School at the University Federal Rio de
Janeiro, the Procat Multipurpose Catalyst Laboratory is a center for biodiesel research and development in Santa Cruz, Brazil.
High temperature and moisture levels required a unique design for the roofing of the building. Using MicroStation, Bentley Architecture
(now AECOsim Building Designer), and Structural Modeler, the Poyry Tecnologia and Orb Design teams extensively modeled and
experimented with the peculiar geometrics of the laboratory, whose form is based on the spatial molecule design pattern of the chemical
element called zeolith.
