Built in 1935 as a railway bridge and expanded in 1965 to carry a road, the Volga Bridge required major reconstruction to ensure the safety
of road-rail transportation in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia. The 1,200-meter bridge is the only permanent crossing of the Volga River in the
area. Giprotransput provided comprehensive computation of new loads for the RUB 837.6 million project.
RM Bridge provided the specialized functionality required to conduct in-depth analysis of the road-rail bridge. Giprotransput modeled
existing supports in complex, non-standard shapes based on fatigue characteristics of steel and concrete. The engineering solution
provided the necessary structural load capacity for the bridge supports and foundation. Bentley software helped to substantiate the
accuracy of the solutions and ensure the bridge successfully passed technical inspections – all while reducing design time.

New Bridge over Duero River
The EUR 16 million bridge over the Duero River in Zamora, Spain, will improve communication and connectivity between the city and
Portugal. Completed and operational in July 2014, the cantilever bridge is 1.6 kilometers long with two lanes, a bike path, and sidewalk. It
was designed by noted bridge designer Javier Manterola, a civil engineer and professor at the Escuela Superior de Ingenieros of Madrid.
FCC, a leading company in the construction of infrastructure and facilities in Spain, retained K2 Ingeneiría to check the cantilever geometry.
Using RM Bridge to verify the geometry of the deck ensured that the construction sequence took into account the non-linear behavior of
concrete due to creep and shrinkage, as well as changes in the structure during construction.
