This PLN 1.23 million project developed a rainwater and snowmelt management strategy for the natural streams and valleys in the city of
Pozna, Poland. The challenge was connecting the rainwater drainage system with surface water courses into a single computational model
by obtaining and standardizing archival materials and other information about the area, its planned development, and stormwater networks
onto one common format.
SewerGEMS enabled BIPROWODMEL to process and interchange data among platforms ranging from the processing of raster data and
field surveying through digitization to computational modeling and conception/design aimed at determining the best technical, economical,
and environmental solutions. The company estimated that SewerGEMS reduced the costs of modeling and analyzing stormwater drainage
scenarios by 70 percent.
Barwon Water serves an 8,100-square-kilometer area in Victoria, Australia. Maintaining a high-quality water supply to all customers
involves understanding the intricacies of the water supply network. This project modeled chlorine residuals throughout the distribution
system via the development of chlorine decay rates to create a calibrated model that then was used to analyze and optimize the chlorine
residuals throughout the network.
The primary objective of the water-quality modeling was to establish a pilot project in this area to determine the viability of establishing
water-quality models for planning and operational analyses. On this project in Geelong, Barwon Water used WaterGEMS to model alternate
scenarios, which reduced the risk of implementing a weaker solution, through the ability to analyze the performance of the system under
