This INR 10 million project encompassed the hydraulic design of a 75-hectare water supply and sewerage network in Navi Mumbai, India,
which resulted in dramatic improvements in the sanitation conditions of the people residing in the Karanjade area. A requirement of the
project was to reduce the time required for design and optimization using innovative technology that could automate traditional and tedious
To design and simulate such a large water supply and sewerage network, CIDCO used SewerCAD to generate the drawings, profiles, and
reports more quickly than it could using traditional methods. By providing interfaces for the integration of various software on different
platforms, CIDCO reduced man-months by a factor of one-seventh – successfully achieving project payback within six months.
Because the water supply system in the city of São Joaquim, Brazil, was at its operational limit, a study of water source alternatives was
initiated to define the best way to complement the existing one. This BRL 6 million project designed a new system for untreated water that
leveraged energy efficiency by reducing operating costs and implementing safety in the booster system (main line and pumps) through the
installation of hydropneumatic tanks.
CASAN input data into WaterCAD and simulated different scenarios, compared efficiencies and energy costs of various pumps available
on the market, verified energy costs between scenarios with and without operating controls, defined the best diameter for the water
supply system, and chose the best design for the project. Once the best alternative was defined, CASAN analyzed scenarios in the study of
hydraulic transients using HAMMER.
