Innovation in Utilities and Communications Networks
WINNER Time Warner Cable | Centennial, Colorado, United States
An Enterprise GIS Strategy for Increased Revenue and Lower Costs Using Bentley’s
Time Warner Cable deployed the Bentley Communications solution across its extensive operations as a common design engineering platform.
The company designed an enterprise-class environment that users access via terminal services at any one of six regional design centers. Having a
common platform allowed Time Warner Cable to standardize processes and practices for design, end user training, IT administration, and ongoing
field operations. The asset data about its nation-wide communications network that is created and updated through the daily use of the system is
rolled up to a centralized geographic information system that acts as the system of record for the entire enterprise.
With access to accurate information about existing network assets and enhanced engineering capabilities, Time Warner Cable has reduced the
cost of project delivery for new network infrastructure projects. The new environment provides an accurate view of all network assets, allowing
for faster pinpointing of outages and faster plant location and helping the company avoid unnecessary truck rolls. Time Warner Cable realized a
first-year ROI of 40 percent. Cumulative savings projected over three years are 121 percent, with ROI doubling after five years.
