In this NZD 750 million public/private partnership, the New Zealand Transport Agency appointed Coffey Geotechnics for the Transmission
Gully Project, which consisted of 27 kilometers of a two-lane highway, three interchanges, and up to 30 bridges. The proposed highway
in Wellington, New Zealand, required an extremely steep gradient on its northernmost end. It also travels along a major fault line of the
region, which makes it earthquake prone.
Coffey Geotechnics used gINT on tablets in the field, which provided real-time communication and collaboration between field workers
and office operations. Data was able to be quickly manipulated and analyzed in the laboratory, which was absolutely critical for the design
and construction teams due to the very steep gradient of the site and the existence of the fault line. It also maintained data integrity while
reducing data entry times by two to three hours per day.
Completed in 2012, the Allen County Highway Department’s USD 31. 4 million Maplecrest Road Extension is improving mobility between the
cities of Fort Wayne and New Haven, Indiana. The project consisted of 1.5 miles of four-lane roadway, two new signalized intersections,
one updated signalized intersection, four bridges, and elimination of two at-grade railroad crossings. American Structurepoint delivered the
project one month ahead of schedule and well below the USD 50 million budget.
The roadway was constructed through commercial-industrial properties and over the Maumee River, floodplain, and eight railroad tracks.
Bentley products allowed the project team to achieve efficiencies in transportation plan development. Using MicroStation and GEOPAK Civil
Engineering Suite allowed multiple departments to collaborate on a streamlined project design, easily make plan modifications, and reduce
