Polish gas transmission system operator GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. contracted Komes Ltd. to perform a gas pulsation analysis and piping system
strength assessment for its PLN 10 million gas compressor station in Sekocin Nowy, Poland. Komes imported the structural model from
AutoPLANT into AutoPIPE to perform the required analyses. The piping system model was then used in Bentley PULS to analyze pulsation
pressures and other parameters.
Bentley software allowed the team to perform the pulsation, mechanical, and modal analyses effectively and efficiently. An innovative
aspect of this project was the application of a new method of designing anti-pulsation bottles and vessels. Komes applied American
Petroleum Institute standards to the solutions developed for the station. Bentley’s software interoperability helped to reduce design time by
about 30 percent.
Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde is increasing concentrator capacity from 120,000 million tons per day to 360,000 million tons per day at
its copper mine in Arequipa, Peru. In conjunction with this USD 4. 5 billion project, a new tailing storage facility was required. GMI S.A.
Ingenieros Consultores designed the facility to store approximately 2 billion tons of material deposited at a rate of 240,000 million tons
Pipelines to the tailing storage facility measure up to 48 inches in diameter and 15 kilometers long. To determine the number of anchor
blocks and pipe supports required, GMI imported the piping and cyclone station models into AutoPIPE and then performed the stress
analysis to locate critical points. Multiple piping arrangements were tested before choosing one based on cost, viability, and security.
