A world leader in specialty chemicals retained 3Deling Sp. z o.o. to develop a 3D model of an existing U.K. chemical plant in preparation for
plant refurbishment. This EUR 50,000 project began by performing 3D laser scanning, which required more than 500 scanner setups to cover
the entire plant. The result was a digitized plant whose data was accessible to the entire project team.
It was challenging to register the huge dataset into a single coordinate system. 3Deling used Bentley Descartes to perform the point
cloud-to-CAD conversion. From this data, 3D models were built for units of the plant that were to be refurbished. These were used to design
new structures and simulate the removal of old structures. Having accurate models shortened design time and eliminated any clashes

USI 50 Kiloton-per-anum Ethylene-vinyl Acetate Copolymer Project
The goal of this USD 1 billion project was to construct a low-density polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer production
line, autoclave process, and associated areas and systems. Located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the facility will produce 50 kilotons of EVA
annually. Taiwanese EPC contractor CTCI Corporation teamed with a Japanese company to deliver process engineering for inside battery
limits and outside battery limits.
The Project Wise collaboration platform connected the project team, as well as vendors and the owner, USI Corporation. Project Wise
ensured all deliverables were stored and organized systematically in a project repository, which reduced handover time by almost 50
percent compared with traditional manual data handover. Project Wise also reduced by more than 30 percent the time for project members
to locate day-to-day documents.
