dgn to oracle spatial
oracle Spatial has become the standard in geospatial engineering, and this pilot
project migrated five feature classes of GIS data from DGn files to oracle Spatial.
GISbiz prepared data conversion rules, inventoried source data in the DGn file
format, and analyzed the data to document levels and features. An XFm data
model was developed in Bentley map and a map model was prepared.
The data and map models were replicated in oracle Spatial, and data was
migrated from DGn level by level. migrated features were in the form of
Spatial Data object geometry, with attributes viewable and managed within
Bentley map. Bentley map and the Geospatial Administrator eliminated custom
programming, saving 20 percent of total project costs. Data search and filter
tools improved productivity by more than 40 percent.
The municipality of cagliari, Italy, retained Hyperspaces to develop a 3D city
model of the historic city center. Hyperspaces created a digital terrain model
using high-resolution terrestrial photos covering a 1.5-square-kilometer area
with more than 10,000 buildings. The 3D models were associated with more
than 3,000 textures from 10,000 photos. Image detail was precise to within

This 3D model was later combined with a 3D model of the historic square,
including accessories, vegetation, underground installations, the cathedral
interior, and pitched roof photovoltaic potential. microStation provided agile
map data management, semi-automated processes, and optimal materials
management. Import/export features, such as producing 3D pDFs, facilitated
communication with the municipality on this $150,000 project.
