INNOVATION IN gOVERNmENT
Administration of Dzerzhinsk urban Region
development of It system supporting city planning Activity
To comply with russian government requirements for managing town planning
activities, the city of Dzerzhinsk developed an IT system that supports
local decision making. It enables the administration to more efficiently and
effectively prepare planning documentation, access urban development
information, exchange data between departments, and allow individuals and
organizations to search for and access data on town planning activities.
Bentley powermap and Geo Web publisher were used to develop a modular IT
system for managing and exchanging geospatial information, visualization and
satellite images, graphical data, and cartographic, town planning, and other
documentation. This modular approach resulted in a 50 percent cost reduction
during implementation. It now takes five times less labor to input and process
data, and four times less time to design drawings.
Andhra Pradesh State Remote Sensing Applications Centre
extraction of Vector data for natural resources development
The Andhra pradesh State remote Sensing Applications centre (ApSrAc)
developed thematic maps in support of Government of India programs to
alleviate the Agrarian crisis. A land information system with topographic
mapping was developed for 31 districts to support decisions about farm loan
waivers, and a database of natural resources for 12 districts was created to
support a watershed development program.
ApSrAc selected the best methodology to execute each project using the
appropriate technologies. microStation was used to extract vector (digital) data
and produce cadastral maps. Data collection included photogrammetry, high-resolution satellite images, and GpS surveys. A subsequent pilot project for the
Department of Science and Technology involved preparation of topographic
maps for 16 districts as a step toward improving quality of life.
