The A1 Dishforth to leeming Improvement Scheme involves upgrading 22
kilometers of the 1950s-era A1 trunk road in north Yorkshire to a dual three-lane motorway. The work will improve safety, reduce accidents, and expand
capacity. Aecom was retained as lead designer from feasibility through
detailed design, which included creating geological sections to assist with
ground condition visualization, modeling, and risk assessment.
legacy data generated since A1 was built included approximately 400
boreholes and 500 trial pits. Aecom created electronic files from the paper
records, imported all files into gIn T, then entered data from the 500 exploratory
holes from the current investigation. Geologic sections were integrated with 3D
highway geometry models produced in mXroAD. The ability to output sections
in seconds provided time and cost benefits throughout the project.
Japan Transportation consultants conducted a $259,000 study for the Java
South line railway project on the island of Java, Indonesia, in preparation for
adding a second track to the existing single railway. Tigenco Graha persada
performed geotechnical investigation services, which required 79 boreholes
and 284 cone penetration tests. The report had to be completed in 1. 5 months.

The traditional approach of using spreadsheets to manually compile data would
not have permitted Tigenco Graha persada to meet that deadline so the firm
used gIn T to prepare customized logs and reports to eliminate human error in
log preparation, boost productivity from 10 logs per hour per engineer to 80 logs
per hour, cut reporting time in half, and enable engineers to focus on analysis.
