located in Wroclaw’s Bielany Wroclawskie shopping district, this iconic shop
features a dynamic form designed to encourage people to enter and purchase
automobiles. A rectangular structure houses the car service area and offices
and an elongated cylinder showcases the car exposition area. The sine-wave
shaped roof can be spotted at a distance by travelers on district streets.
A challenge in designing this unusual structure was to model the complex
roof and structural supports. The project team used Generativecomponents
to create a generative design for the panelized roof, a static model of the roof
supports, and a digital prototype that facilitated design review. The $1.2 million
shop fulfilled the goal of providing a functional space that attracts attention.

calibre’s research explored the benefits of generative design in mechanical
engineering by allowing designers to input front-end engineering design
parameters (FeeD) into information-rich, multidisciplinary 3D models. The
project focused on conveyor systems, for which slight changes in geometry
equate to significant rework of the modular, large-radius convex or concave
calibre generated modules automatically based on the overall profile geometry.
once FeeD parameters were determined, Generativecomponents was used
to create the geometry for an intelligent 3D model that enabled designers to
iterate design solutions and provide greater value to clients. For a $500 million
materials-handling project with up to four conveyors, this solution would reduce
the design documentation phase by 300 to 500 man-hours, equating to $50,000
to $75,000 in savings.
