Macquarie Hearing Hub – BIM pilot
The macquarie Hearing Hub under construction in Sydney, Australia, is a mixed-use building with university education facilities, a research facility, and space
occupied by private tenants. perumal pedavoli used this complex building as a
pilot project for newly acquired building information modeling (BIm) skills. The
firm had previously documented the building in 2D using microStation.
A group of employees who had completed product training on Bentley
Architecture was tasked with documenting the building in 3D using the Bentley
software. The software enabled the group to produce the necessary plans,
sections, elevations, and schedules directly from the 3D model. In addition, any
design changes were instantly reflected in the deliverables. This pilot project
demonstrated the accuracy and time savings made possible by BIm.
located in the county of norfolk, United Kingdom, the open Academy norwich
is a $32.6 million school designed to provide an inspiring learning environment.
The three-story, 9,500-square-meter building houses classrooms, sports hall,
theater, and central atrium with a glulam tied-arch roof. ramboll was appointed
to design a sustainable structure constructed of cross-laminated timber.

ramboll had a tight lead time to deliver the project to the fabricator for cnc
construction. Structural modeler was used to provide timber volumes for
budget quotations and, during design coordination sessions, to note potential
construction problems. Using Structural modeler allowed ramboll to better
control its procurement process and enabled a high level of coordination and
cost early in the design process.
