INNOVATION IN BuILDINg
O’Donnell + Tuomey
As the only full-time production theater in northern Ireland, the lyric Theatre
plays an important role in the regeneration of a city marred by recent conflict.
The old lyric was demolished in 2008 and replaced by a new $295 million
venue with auditorium, studio theater, rehearsal room, and related facilities.
The constraints of the urban site, combined with the functional requirement for
acoustic separation, made for a complex building geometry.
microStation powerDraft and TriForma helped o’Donnell + Tuomey overcome
these complexities and deliver a design that embodies the spirit of theater
production. lined with Belfast brick, the purpose-built performance spaces
wrap around intimate social spaces for impromptu gatherings. The software

Initiated by five companies in the construction industry, the continuum project
in Spain aims to transform the way projects are built. The unconventional
approach engages interdisciplinary teams that include developers, engineers,
construction companies, and contractors. This collaborative model allows the

Bentley Architecture and project Wise were chosen as the platforms for
data-based building information modeling, which enables management of the
building both as a whole and as individual parts. The 3D visualization allows
the team to focus on details, sections, and assembly processes, and the team
can generate cost, schedule, and logistics specifications during drafting, which
saves time and avoids activities that are inconsistent with the model.
