Kaohsiung Maritime Cultural & Popular Music Center International Competition
Located at the mouth of the Love River in Taiwan, the Kaohsiung Maritime
Cultural & Popular Music Center evokes the image of a vessel moored at the
quay. Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects used the design competition as
a pilot project to retool for building information modeling (BIM). The project
team transitioned to the BIM methodology within a short time and in a
A series of hands-on workshops brought team members up to speed. Half
the team adopted Bentley Architecture and half continued to work in the
legacy environment. Bentley Architecture was used to aggregate the
building geometry from other software and disciplines, as well as provide
documentation, coordination, and scheduling. The pilot project demonstrated
that BIM could be deployed during conceptual design.
Perot Museum of Nature & Science
dallas, texas, united States
The $185 million Perot Museum of Nature & Science is located in the Victory
Park development at the heart of the “new Dallas.” The museum will create
a distinctive identity and enhance the city’s evolving culture. The challenge
was to deliver a high-performance design that incorporates state-of-the-art
technologies to achieve the highest standard of sustainability possible for a
building of its type.
Morphosis Architects used Bentley Architecture, Structural Modeler, and
Bentley Navigator to undertake a more efficient, integrated design approach.
Using the software enabled the small design team to work more productively
with fewer people. The design team was able to automate certain parts of the
drawing documentation process and, by creating detailed design models, check
shop drawings and contractor models with model overlays.
