Shah Technical consultants prepared a feasibility study for the $45 million
upgrade, augmentation, and operation of the water supply and sewerage
systems in Udaipur, India. The project included condition assessments, hydraulic
design of the networks, and design and layout plans for asset rehabilitation and
development. one goal was to meet the projected increase in demand for water
from 106. 5 to 278 million liters per day.
The water supply transmission main and distribution network design was
achieved using WaterGemS. Simulations determined the optimal water
distribution network for meeting design criteria. To achieve 24x7 supplies in
select areas, WaterGemS simulated scenarios by using isolation valves to
divide areas into zones. SewerGemS was used to examine alternative routes,
determine cost-effective options, and design proposed improvements for the

Treatment plant’s water supply, transmission, and distribution network in new
Delhi, India. Serving a population of 1. 2 million, the 1,000-kilometer network
covered 290 square kilometers and supplied 34. 5 million gallons per day. The
project established baseline conditions and focused not only on reducing non-revenue water due to illegal connections, but also on aging and encrusted pipes.
WaterGemS simulated current operating conditions, calculated pump heads
developed while pumping water into the distribution network, and determined
causes of low pressure at the ends of the distribution network. Analysis results
correlated with field observations. The optimal solution was chosen from
options modeled in WaterGemS and became the basis of recommendations to
the client for network improvements.
