construction of Access Jetty
Port of Toamasina, madagascar
construction of a $60 million access jetty at the port of Toamasina,
madagascar, involved installing the jetty and mooring structures beyond an
existing jetty. Afcons used two steel barges as the platform for driving 400
steel pipes of around 1, 200 millimeters in diameter. A hydraulic piling gantry
was chosen as the pile driver.
Afcons built an analysis model for the piling gantry to simulate loading and
boundary conditions in the field. S TAAD.pro allowed the project team to create
numerous iterations of load cases and arrive at a final solution in about 15 days
as opposed to the two months it would have taken using alternative methods.
STAAD.pro yielded accurate results and the gantry performed as expected.

coal Handling plant, coastal tpp (2x300 Mw)
The 946 million Inr coal Handling plant for a 2x300 megawatt coastal
thermal power plant involved the complicated design of a crusher house with
a 438-meter-long conveyor. As part of an engineering, procurement, and
construction contract, BSBK engineers designed all of the mechanical, electrical
and instrumentation, utility, and structural systems for the plant. All structures
required seismic load analysis in addition to the usual structural loads.
STAAD.pro provided a quick solution for analyzing and designing structures in
conformance with the uniform building codes. The gallery system presented
a challenge since gallery and trestles are usually analyzed and designed as
isolated units. BSBK used S TAAD.pro to create a 3D model to analyze the
structural behavior as a whole. This saved considerable time compared to
modeling the isolated units.
