INNOVATION IN ROADS
The Turcot Interchange is a montreal traffic hub, with links to three highways
and access to champlain Bridge, the international airport, and city center.
nearing the end of its service life, the interchange is being reconstructed
by Quebec’s ministry of Transport. The $3 billion project will construct and
commission a new interchange with four access points and then demolish
the old interchange.
management of traffic for more than 290,000 vehicles per day is a major
challenge. cImA+ used 3D modeling to validate phasing of the work and
eliminate conflicts with crossings and clearances. Inroads offered a single
solution for geometric design as well as provided data for visualizing real-time
navigation through the project, building a physical model from laser tracings,
and producing videos for the project launch.

design of northern Kota Bypass
The $70 million two-lane northern Bypass for the city of Kota, India, will
improve connectivity between nH- 12, nH- 76, and SH- 33. The 14.2-kilometer
alignment passes through flat terrain and crosses t wo rivers. Adjustments
were made for a railway line at-grade crossing and for inclusion of a
consulting engineers Group studied various alignments for the bypass
using m XroAD and Google earth tools. Horizontal and vertical alignments
were prepared for each design alternative along with volumetric earthwork
calculations and pavement subgrade design. A trumpet structure was designed
to avoid right-turning from the national highway to the state highway. The 3D
views and fly-throughs facilitated discussions with the client.
