Visualisation of german waterways
The city of Koblenz is located at the confluence of the rhine and moselle
rivers southeast of Bonn, Germany. Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau monitored
and modeled 500 kilometers of waterway in the region as a navigational aid
for river vessels. microStation was used to effectively generate 3D models of
the riparian landscapes. The firm gathered data from available sources and
automatically generated intelligent digital terrain models.
microStation produced highly detailed close-up views. Buildings were
generated based on height and roof information, and high-quality textures were
produced from orthophotos. roads and tracks were also placed automatically.
The digital terrain model data was exported to frequently used 3D formats.
As the center of mass transport in Austria’s second largest city, Graz main
Station could not meet the operational demands of its 30,000 daily passengers.
restructuring the station and rearranging the tracks, switches, and crossings
for three main lines would increase rail speed and expand capacity. Hyder
consulting led the joint venture and developed the track alignments, platform
reconstruction and extension, and access point modernization and construction.

Bentley rail Track provided tools to model and analyze alignment options for
25 kilometers of track, 84 switches, 10 crossings, and five platforms. Design
constraints included the signaling system and overhead lines, arrangement of
sidings and yards, and construction phasing and logistics to allow uninterrupted
rail service. Bentley rail Track helped Hyder overcome the constraints and
respond to rapidly changing requirements.
