Founded in 1767, Survey of India is a national survey and mapping organization
under the Department of Science & Technology and is the oldest scientific
department within the Government of India. As the nation’s principal mapping
agency, it is responsible for all geodetic and geophysical surveys, topographic
surveys and maps, geographic maps and aeronautical charts, cadastral surveys,
and city guides and maps.
Survey of India is creating a digital topographical data base on 1:250,000,
1: 50,000, and 1: 25,000 scales. Looking for efficient digital tools to accelerate
map production, Survey of India implemented MicroStation in conjunction
with Bentley Descartes, MicroStation GeoGraphics, and GEOPAK. The Bentley
solutions have reduced the man-hours required to create maps, and hard copies
are now digitized for easy dissemination.
Bentley’s commitment to the same DGN file formats over versions of MicroStation has
been—and will continue to be—the main benefit of MicroStation over the competition.
