European countries are moving toward geography markup language (GML) as
the standard for exchanging data between GIS/CAD platforms. In this project,
a tool was developed for translating files in a controlled environment to provide
users with an easier method to access multiple data sets. The tool runs on
MicroStation and Bentley Map.
MicroStation uses more features than traditional GIS tools so it is now possible
to split GML features according to attributes. Imported files retain their setup
structure, such as feature names and attributes. The import can use an XML
Schema Definition or translate the GML file according to data analysis. Export
works the same way, merging features according to attributes, following an xsd
schema, or exporting raw features.
Sharjah Emirate Town Planning & Survey
The Integrated Land Management Solution
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
The Integrated Land Management Solution was initiated by Sharjah Town
Planning & Survey to automate all transactions, activities, and procedures
related to and applied on Sharjah Emirate land plots. Two of the main objectives
of the $1.9 million project were sharing land-related data among users in
various departments and integrating different applications used within Sharjah
Town Planning & Survey.
Phased implementation of the project focused on priorities in the working
environment, such as building a unified geospatial database by integrating
MicroStation CAD files with the GIS database stored in Oracle Spatial;
implementing a Project Wise workflow-based document management system;
clearing the accumulated backlog of plot data; cleansing land record data; and
automating business processes with custom applications.
