XFM Moves Maps to Integrated GIS

Telefónica O2 Czech Republic, a major operator of voice and data services,
consistently maintains accurate and complex documentation about its network.
The company recently devoted $1 million to upgrade its GIS system to a spatial
database solution that will provide quick and accurate support to all processes
related to network documentation. By Jan. 1, 2010, it had achieved a rollout and
data migration within 89 percent of its branches.
The Telefónica O2 upgrade implemented a GIS based on XFM technology and
a spatial database; simplified the data model and work processes; provided
new user functionality and workflow management; and established a new
data-capturing process for use with external suppliers. The data migration into
Oracle Spatial included 200 million objects from throughout the entire Czech

Part of the solution entailed the use of Bentley PowerMap to create a unified
interface that led to improved operations support systems and increased
efficiency in processing externally captured data in the GIS system for the
network documentation team. Telefónica O2 realized significant simplification
and thus annual savings of approximately 10 percent (or $650,000) in labor costs.
