ABOUT THE 2010 BE INSPIRED AWARDS
The Be Inspired Awards offer a unique opportunity to gain new insights and learn innovative practices. This annual competition
brings together infrastructure professionals and academia, advances innovation and best practices, and promotes the work of
individuals and organizations that are helping to sustain the world’s infrastructure.
The Be Inspired Awards program has recognized over 1,300 of the world’s most outstanding infrastructure projects since its 2004
inception as the Be Awards of Excellence. The projects nominated for the Be Inspired Awards are submitted by Bentley’s software
users around the globe. More than 320 innovative projects were nominated in 2010’s 19 categories, which included first-time awards
for Innovation in Construction and Innovation in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering.
The winning projects were selected by a rigorous jury of independent experts in various fields of infrastructure including previous
award winners, other Bentley users, editors and publishers, and industry and discipline experts—all of whom adhere to the highest
standards to determine which projects best demonstrate superior vision and an unwavering commitment to exceptional quality and
This year’s jurors assembled at Be Inspired: Thought Leadership in Infrastructure held on Tuesday, Oct. 19 and Wednesday, Oct. 20 in
Amsterdam to deliberate on the top infrastructure projects of 2010. At the event, representatives of the top infrastructure projects of
2010 presented their projects and discussed the best practices and innovations that made these projects possible. The winners were
announced during the highly anticipated Be Inspired Awards ceremony on Wednesday evening.
Winners of the Special Recognition Awards were also announced at the Wednesday evening celebration. Special Recognition
Awards exemplify outstanding projects nominated by the jurors themselves as representing both excellence and innovation in
a way that is emblematic of Bentley’s mission of Sustaining Infrastructure. Transcending multiple categories, the individuals and
organizations selected for this year’s Be Inspired Special Recognition Awards best represent Attaining Return on Innovation, Advancing
Interoperability, Sustaining Our Society, Sustaining Our Environment, Sustaining the Professions, and Educator of the Year.
All nominated projects are presented here in The Year in Infrastructure 2010. By featuring the outstanding achievements in
infrastructure design, engineering, construction, and operations across the globe, Bentley would like to share the innovation in best
practices among the infrastructure professionals who make these projects possible.
