The TU Munich medical center Rechts der Isar in Germany enlarged its surgery
capacity by adding eight surgery rooms and a centralized sterilization center.
Design and construction of the $13 million project was fast-tracked to achieve
the very tight time frame required. ProSteel’s capabilities for modeling,
detailing, and fabrication enabled Cadolto to create the 37 building modules in
Prefabrication of the modules occurred in Cadolto’s modern fabrication center in
Cadolzburg, Bavaria. The building modules were then driven by truck to a point
outside Munich and transported to the construction site at night to minimize
disruptions. Prefabrication reduced the environmental impact, noise, and waste,
and the prefabrication allowed the building to be erected in the required 48-
hour time frame.

Energy Modeling Using Hevacomp

The goal of this project was to build an energy simulation model for each of 23
city buildings in San Bernardino, Calif. The models simulated HVAC systems,
lighting efficiency and control, roof and wall insulation and construction, glazing
type, water usage, and daylighting. The data was analyzed to identify notable
patterns and develop energy-efficient solutions.
Hevacomp Simulator was used to model City Hall, where approximately
$500,000 in savings could be realized over 10 years if energy-efficient measures
are taken. Models for the other 22 facilities are under construction. Using
Hevacomp Simulator, the city could increase its energy efficiency, save money,
and improve indoor air quality and comfort.
