Henning Larsen Architects
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Two Crystal Towers will be located within a new financial district in Saudi
Arabia’s capital city of Riyadh. The 18-story and 26-story towers will be
situated between the master-planned financial center and a verdant pedestrian
thoroughfare. They will be oriented to create a visual link between the two. The
$151 million project includes a raised podium that will connect the two towers
and provide a shaded outdoor meeting area.
Henning Larsen Architects anticipate that Crystal Towers will become a
world-class example of sustainable development. The design uses recessed,
scaled crystalline apertures to minimize solar heat gain and associated cooling
requirements while optimizing views to the surrounding plaza and landscape.
The towers will actually lower the outdoor temperature by 6 to 8 degrees
Celsius due to the optimal building proportions, light facade materials, and
vegetation and water features in the landscape.
