Jeongup, South Korea
The goal of IDM’s $200 million Honam High-Speed Railway project in
Jeongup, South Korea, was to review the design of 9,380 meters of railway
and 3,680 meters of bridge length and to modify some serious construction
drawing errors. Because a critical requirement was to review the quantity and
constructability before the start of construction, rapid modeling was crucial.
Using GEOPAK enabled the company to rapidly accomplish 3D modeling of
steel bar and provided a supplementary design to the builder and client before
beginning construction. By deploying MicroStation, the company also optimized
collaboration to facilitate rapid project team deployment and accelerate
information sharing across project teams.

Aveiro Port Feeder Line
The $10 million railway line serving the Port of Aveiro in Portugal provides an
alternative to transporting cargo by truck, thereby reducing energy consumption
and exhaust emissions. The feeder line crosses a sensitive natural environment,
which had to be disturbed as little as possible during construction and after the
bridge goes into service.
J L Cancio engineers designed an extensive viaduct that will have minimal
impact on the environment. The viaduct’s light structure not only reduced the
load on the soil and consumed less material, but also reduced the structure’s
visual impact. Using MicroStation and RM Bridge enabled the project team
to overcome the obstacles and create infrastructure that fulfills the social,
economic, and environmental goals of the community.
