The $150 million Energy-From-Waste (EF W) facility in County Meath,
Ireland, complements European Union policies favoring energy conservation,
greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and landfill diversion. The facility, which
is an incinerator with energy recovery, will process 200,000 tons of waste
annually. It will generate enough renewable energy to meet the needs of 20,000
homes and reduce emissions by preventing methane release from the landfill.
Using Bentley software, including MicroStation and Bentley Navigator, M WH
created a virtual 3D environment to present the design to the client and then
gave them the facility model to further explore the design remotely. The ability
to store files in one central, universally accessible data store using Project Wise
proved invaluable and saved time that would normally have been spent
transferring data and coordinating access.
M WH’s goal was to provide detailed design of the steam condensate cycle for
the plant. In addition, M WH acted as overall coordinator for the 3D CAD design
of the project, which involved the collation of all third-party models and clash
detection in a 3D design environment. Team members were based in Belgium,
the United Kingdom, and India.
