SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS
Nominees for the 2010 Special Recognition Awards were proposed by the jurors as best exemplifying Bentley’s mission of Sustaining
Infrastructure. The nominees were then reviewed by a panel comprising Bentley CEO Greg Bentley; Bentley COO Malcolm Walter;
Bentley SVP, Bentley Software, Bhupinder Singh; Bentley SVP, Bentley Software, Buddy Cleveland; and Bentley Infrastructure
Ambassador Council members Norbert Young, the former head of McGraw Hill Construction; Jim Porter, the former chief engineer
and vice president of engineering and operations at DuPont; and Pat McCrory, former mayor of Charlotte, N.C.
Attaining Return on Innovation
This category best represents innovation by utilizing technology and creative workflows to create value and deliver better-performing infrastructure with quantifiable results.
This category is the epitome of utilizing Bentley products that promote interoperability, data sharing, and workflow efficiency among
clients, design teams, and other stakeholders.
Sustaining Our Society
The award in this category is given to a project that best demonstrates the power of infrastructure to benefit society by
accomplishing one or all of these three objectives: improving quality of life, promoting economic development, and providing
responsiveness and resilience to natural disasters or climate change.
Sustaining Our Environment
This category recognizes a project that demonstrates how to preserve the environment while meeting the needs of human
inhabitants through infrastructure. It exemplifies how technology can be leveraged to help reduce our ecological footprint, increase
biocapacity, and use nonrenewable resources wisely.
Sustaining the Professions
This category encompasses organizations that best represents a commitment to sustain the infrastructure professions through
continuous learning, professional development, mentoring the next generation of infrastructure professionals, and providing an
exceptional environment for learning.
Educator of the Year
An educator of the year demonstrates achievements that stand out above those of his or her peers. In addition, he or she brings
a passion for inspiring students to not only participate in science and engineering fields, but also sets the expectations for them
to excel in their chosen profession all the while interlacing cutting-edge technologies and theories that ultimately enhance and
