Tata Power Company’s goal for this structural engineering project was to
design and construct the distribution substation structure at the North Eastern
Electricity Supply Company of Orissa in Mumbai, India. Given the limited time
available, the company used a combination of roller compacted concrete and
steel sections to achieve faster construction of the distribution substation.
The company saved critical design time by using S TAAD.Pro. Although the
impact on cost was minimal, Tata Power Company projected construction time
savings of 70 days and anticipated that this savings would result in an earlier
supply of power to North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Orissa.

Our Lady of Lourdes Replacement Hospital

In 2007 a comprehensive site and facility master plan was proposed for the Our
Lady of Lourdes Replacement Hospital Campus in Lafayette, La. Constructed at
a cost of $211 million, the six-floor, 378,000-square-foot facility will house all
acute care clinical services and will have 192 private patient rooms.
In 2009, TRC Worldwide Engineering was named structural engineer and given
five months to erect 3,000 tons of structural steel. When the owner elected to
go with early steel detailing, TRC prepared an engineering model with RAM
Structural System and imported it directly into the detailing software. This kept
the firm from manually inputting the information with each revision and saved
approximately one month of detailing time.
