The new phenolic resin plant in the Perm Region of Russia consists of two
reactors for phenolic resin, auxiliary equipment, raw materials storage, and
finished product storage and transport. The production process is subject to
stringent environmental regulation because phenol is a highly toxic substance.
To modernize the process, a new type of reactor for resin production was
linked to the pumps, intermediate tanks, and connected piping. Technologically
advanced automation allows operators to withdraw from the production
hall and manage the process from a control room. Metafrax used Bentley’s
plant and structural design software for high-speed design, visualization, and
documentation of the plant.

Al Nagfa Mall
Al Ain, United Arab Emirates
The 60,000-square-meter Al Nagfa Mall in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, is
the second phase of a four-level retail center with shops, restaurants, cinema,
supermarket, and food court. Total capital costs are $140 million. Plans called for
each large area of floor to be divided into four zones separated by expansion joints.
MSN Prestressed Concrete designed post-tension concrete slabs as
construction proceeded and before architectural elements were finalized. RAM
Concept accommodated the many requested changes and its ability to overlay
performance plots on top of tendon profiles was critical. The ability to calculate
deflection under various load conditions and load combinations was pivotal in
gaining approvals from the consultant, client representative, and local authority.
