EGIS Rail is building a 16-kilometer rail link between Epinay-sur-Seine and Le
Bourget in Paris, France. The $175 million tram-train system will improve public
transportation and reduce road traffic. As prime contractor, EGIS is responsible
for all civil engineering on the new line: track, structures and supports, landscaping,
acoustic screens and façades, and platforms for the stations at each end.
EGIS used Bentley Rail Track to perform track alignment design including
civil works interfaces, which enabled the project team to combine the track
alignment studies with earthworks and civil works constraints and input data.
The integrated 3D design optimized geometry, ensured constructability, and
improved productivity to meet a tight schedule.

GA-Wire Planning Software for Overhead Contact Systems
GA Energieanlagenbau Süd’s innovative GA-wire software for the design of an
overhead contact system is based on information such as 3D track geometry,
soil characteristic value, and mast location. It also includes buildings, line
plans for gas and water, telecommunications, and electricity. The engineering
information represented and processed by MicroStation and GA-wire produces
overhead contact systems that are 50 percent more effective.
Different types of overhead contact systems for trolleys and trams may be
calculated and dimensioned using GA-wire. The application is flexible enough
to plan systems within city zones, in which the plan must adapt to adjacent
surroundings. The 3D model also automatically adjusts system geometry to
compensate for climactic conditions. GA-wire is particularly effective for
rebuilding existing installations.
