Larsen & Toubro’s engineering team undertook a process manufacturing project
in Mumbai, India, with the challenge of modeling the piping systems and
supports for the offshore platform module within a limited space. The project
team generated 3D models for delivery to the client for use during operations
and maintenance, including future retrofits and modifications.
Larsen & Toubro used MicroStation, Project Wise Navigator, and Project Wise
i-model Composer to accelerate information sharing and communications
across project teams. The engineering practices established over the years on
numerous similar projects helped the Mumbai team to cope with the challenges
presented by this project.

Underground Natural Gas Storage Strachocina
Natural gas storage is principally used to meet seasonal load variations, with
gas injected into storage during low demand and withdrawn from storage
during peak demand. Secondary purposes include balancing pipeline system
flows and maintaining shipping volumes. To meet demand, storage volume at
the underground facility in Strachocina, Poland, was increased from 150 million
cubic meters to 330 million cubic meters.
This is the first underground storage that Nafta-Gaz used AutoPLAN T to
design from piping and P&ID through to the physical model and then to final 2D
documentation. AutoPLANT enabled the use of P&ID schematics during the
physical model assembly task. The company has been using the software for
several years, with average time savings of 50 to 80 percent per project.
