Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) designed and constructed the Diesel
Unifying Unit Preheat Exchangers at a Mumbai, India, refinery. The technical team
proposed using old exchangers to recover the heat from an overhead cooler. One
critical priority was to have the structure designed precisely for the exchangers.
Using S TAAD.Pro, HPCL saved critical design time. The shortened design cycle
for the structure resulted in higher productivity for the project team. Fuel gas
consumption decreased by four tons per day, and estimated cost savings from
the scheme was around 4.4 crores per annum by reducing fuel fired and power
consumption in the coolers.
Elevated Cable Trench
Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd.’s (HPCL) project goal was to design and
construct an elevated cable trench near the Captive Power Plant in Mumbai,
India, to protect the cable because it was being damaged by hot steam coming
from a nearby steam trap. With meticulous planning, HPCL designed the cable
trench in S TAAD.Pro and executed the project.
By using S TAAD.Pro, HPCL avoided serious or potentially fatal accidents.
Extracting data from the model was straightforward and simple, and HCPL
saved critical design time. Total time savings for the project were at least 25
percent. By shortening the design cycle for the structure, this time savings
resulted in higher productivity.
