L&T-Sargent & Lundy Limited
Parametric Modeling Using MicroStation VBA
The main goal of L&T-Sargent & Lundy’s coal power project in Faridabad,
India, was to develop MicroStation VBA scripts to parametrically model tanks,
pumps, and major equipment such as cranes and pipe racks. This avoided the
time-consuming nature of manual equipment modeling and reduced the chance
The company saw a substantial reduction of man-hours while generating
equipment models, reducing the time to generate a tank model from three hours
to 15 minutes and a pump model from one hour to five minutes. In addition, the
project team reduced errors attributed to manual methods.
MWH Global, Inc.
The $150 million Meath EF W project is an energy-from-waste-facility in Duleek,
Ireland. M WH’s project goal was to provide detailed design of the steam
condensate cycle for the plant. In addition, M WH acted as overall coordinators
for the 3D CAD design of the project, which involved the collation of all third-party models and full clash detection in a 3D design environment.
By using MicroStation and Bentley Navigator, M WH created a virtual 3D
environment to present the design so that the client could explore the design
remotely. The ability to store files in one central, universally accessible data
store using Project Wise proved invaluable and saved a large amount of time
that would normally have been spent transferring data and coordinating access.
