INNOVATION IN MINING AND METALS
LogiCamms Electro80 Joint Venture
Murray Basin and Jacinth Ambrosia Mines
Iluka Resources, an Australian mineral sands production and processing
company, wanted to reduce mine startup time by automatically generating
complete electrical designs for new projects. Designs needed to include power
and control schematics, interconnection diagrams, and customized cable
schedules. Using promis•e, a system was configured within a few months for the
Murray Basin mine, then applied on the Jacinth Ambrosia mine in just weeks.
The promis•e engineering tool reduced engineering and drafting hours by at
least 25 percent on the initial project and by up to 50 percent on the second
project. Checking time was reduced by at least 50 percent on both projects.
Ultimately, promis•e allowed the team to keep pace with the tight schedule
demands, so the mines could be productive sooner.

Salobo Project
Parauapebas, Brazil
Located on the border of Brazil’s Amazon rain forest, the $1.1 billion Salobo
Project is being developed by the multinational mining corporation Vale. The
goal is to process 12 million tons of mineral per year to obtain a 37. 5 percent
copper/gold concentrate. The project was awarded to the EPC partnership of
SEI Consultoria and Engevix, with SEI providing mining expertise and Engevix
providing knowledge of 3D design using Bentley solutions.
Bentley Professional Services provided training and consulting services to
integrate PlantSpace products and other Bentley tools with the firm’s internal
systems. Benefits include the ability to extract material takeoffs and other
deliverables, thereby saving time responding to on-the-fly changes by Vale.
Interference detection enables designers to find problems before they become
an issue, saving both time and money during construction.
