INNOVATION IN GENERATIVE DESIGN
The Avia Park multifunctional complex is being built on the former military
airbase at Khodynskoye field, north of Moscow, Russia. The complex consists
of two 90-meter-high buildings—a 23-story office building and an 11-story
residential building—whose architectural concept is based on the silhouette of
a natural crystal.
The facade consists of triangular planes, each rotated or inclined. The
time-consuming manual calculation of rotation and inclination angles for
each triangle produced unsatisfying results. Bothe Richter Teherani deployed
GenerativeComponents and within two weeks had generated 21 variations of
the façade geometry.

Zayed University
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Due to high demand for undergraduate courses and an increasing emphasis on
faculty research, Zayed University is developing an $817 million campus in the
Abu Dhabi suburb of New Khalifa City. The 80-hectare site houses academic
buildings, recreation facilities, and residential accommodations. Designed
to reflect the national identity and architectural heritage of the United Arab
Emirates, the facilities will serve 6,000 students.
Bothe Richter Teherani designed the central campus, including a convention
center with auditorium, library, dining halls, administration, and study buildings.
A free-form roof—measuring 380-by- 180 meters with a surface area of 28,000
square meters—was designed using GenerativeComponents. The software
allowed designers to develop a cost-efficient cladding system by studying
variations in element shape, size, number, and fixing system as well as
material characteristics.
