INNOVATION IN CADASTRE AND LAND DEVELOPMENT
Utrecht-based Dutch Rail Real Estate (NS Poort) integrated geospatial
information into daily business processes to enable portfolio analysis, support
strategy building, and facilitate operational planning and control of income
gains and expense savings. The $650,000 project linked geographical maps and
locations to SAP Real Estate Management master data objects, reducing data
retrieval lead times from days to seconds.
Incorporating geospatial intelligence into the real estate management workflow
enabled NS Poort to analyze properties, leases, and rentals in a geospatial
context; define a strategy for selling, purchasing, and upgrading properties;
and realize a 500 percent return on investment in three years. The integration
of Bentley’s geospatial desktop, server, and publishing technology with web
services, Oracle Spatial, and SAP resulted in effective integration.

Introduction of the Oracle Spatial Database With Geospatial
Spijkenisse, Netherlands
The Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning, and the Environment gave
municipalities the responsibility of creating base registrations, which are
intended to provide access to relevant public information from a genuine
source. The central registration will also promote internal efficiency and
reliability of data. The records contain both administrative and geometric data,
which are stored together as objects in an Oracle Spatial database.
The town of Spijkenisse in the Netherlands had no previous experience with
Oracle Spatial so this project was a test of Bentley Geospatial Server as an
effective tool for accessing objects stored in the geospatial database. Bentley’s
Professional Services contributed to the development of the geospatial server
concept, and once the complex process of creating database tables was
completed, converting DGN files to objects was done in bulk with 94 to 96
percent accuracy.
