THE BE INSPIRED AWARDS JURORS
This year’s jury ranged from industry and discipline experts and editors and publishers to previous award winners and other Bentley
software users. Representing independent experts from around the world in various fields of infrastructure, this well-rounded jury
volunteered wisdom, critical assessment, and enthusiasm to face the difficult task of choosing the best among the best. Finalists
were announced in mid-August and the winners were chosen and recognized at the 2009 Be Inspired: Infrastructure Best Practices
Symposium and Awards in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 12-14, 2009.
JURORS FOR: CONNECTING PROJECT TEAMS AND COMMUNICATING THROUGH VISUALIZATION
Joseph R. Francica, Directions Media
Joseph Francica is editor in chief and vice-publisher of Directions Media and serves as COO for the company’s day-to-day
operations. He has been a geospatial professional for over 30 years, authored over 250 articles, and is sought by professional
organizations and the national media for his insights on geospatial technology. Francica received a bachelors degree in geology
from Rutgers University, a masters degree in earth science from Dartmouth, and an MBA from the Edwin L. Cox School of Business
at Southern Methodist University.
Chuck Faunce, Financial Consultant
Chuck Faunce has 13 years of experience providing clients with valuations of businesses, intellectual properties, and financial
securities for purposes including transaction support, litigation support, bankruptcy support, and financial and tax reporting. Faunce
is an accredited senior appraiser, a certified licensing professional, and possesses the Certified in Distressed Business Valuation
designation. Frequently called on to testify as an expert witness in court proceedings, he is also an economic evaluator for Maryland
Kathleen Maher, Jon Peddie Research
Kathleen Maher is vice president and senior analyst at Jon Peddie Research (JPR), at which she is the author of several reports
including JPR’s “CAD Report” and “Digital Content Creation Series.” She is also a regular contributor to several publications
including Computer Graphics World, Communication Arts, and ConnectPress. During the 1990s, Maher was an editor-in-chief at
Cadence, one of the earliest CAD magazines. She is based in Tiburon, Calif.

Shanon Fauerbach, P.E., Stagnito Media
Shanon Fauerbach is the editorial director for Stagnito Media. She oversees the editorial content for the CE News, Structural Engineer,
and Rebuilding America’s Infrastructure brands, including their print publications, electronic newsletters, websites, and events.
Tom Sawyer, Engineering News-Record
2009 BE INSPIRED AWARDS
Tom Sawyer is a senior editor at Engineering News-Record, a weekly news magazine and daily online news source for the
design and construction industry. Sawyer has been an editor at ENR since 2000. He specializes in covering the application of new
developments in information technology to the design and construction process, but, like all ENR editors, he frequently sets his
specialty beat aside whenever called upon to cover breaking news. He is based in New York City.
