INNOVATION IN BUILDING
Warren and Mahoney Architects Ltd
Internal Training
Christchurch, New Zealand
Warren and Mahoney Architects is comprised of more than 80 architects,
interior designers, and urban designers throughout New Zealand. To make
training easily accessible for new and existing staff using Bentley Architecture
and MicroStation technology, the firm subscribed to the Bentley LEARN Server.
Bentley tailored the program to its CAD standards and workplace procedures.
By accessing the Bentley LEARN Server, Warren and Mahoney can provide
desktop training whenever and wherever it is needed at a fixed cost per annum.
This standardizes training throughout the organization, eliminates downtime for
travel, and keeps staff current on new versions of the products.

The $8.9 million Information and Communications Technology Centre in
Christchurch, New Zealand, is a National Centre of Excellence for research and
training. The 1,600-square-meter facility is a simple, two-story, structurally
driven container that is substantially and traditionally built but lightly held
above its site on four principle connections. It is one of the first installations for
a new material called phase change plasterboard, which has the potential to
reduce construction costs and energy use.
The design team used Bentley Architecture, which allowed a federated
approach to drawing files that was compatible with internal file replication
among four offices. This ensured all team members had up-to-date information
and provided an effective single source for data storage. Bentley’s support
of other file formats allowed the team to coordinate visual and CAD drawing
production into one workflow.
