INNOVATION IN UTILITIES
Iberdrola Ignenieria y Construccion developed a new system for substation
design based on a collaborative work environment using 3D models and
computer-aided engineering concepts. The firm deployed Bentley products that
included Project Wise, promis•e, MicroStation, and TriForma.
This system introduces manufacturing information directly into designs to
provide coherence within the project team. It permits engineering teams at
locations other than the Iberdrola headquarters in Madrid, Spain, to participate
in substation design projects. Through multisite collaboration, the system
promotes creativity while ensuring adherence to engineering standards.
Infotech Enterprises Ltd
Infotech Gas and Electric Mapping System
At a time when smart grids are becoming a reality, energy companies need to
capture and utilize information about infrastructure assets dispersed across
geographies. Hyderabad, India-based Infotech Enterprises develops geospatial
information management systems for efficient handling of outages and asset
Infotech recently developed a software application called Infotech Gas Electric
Mapping Systems (iGEMS), which captures gas and electric maps. Running
on MicroStation GeoGraphics with Oracle as the backend database, the
application reduces data conversion time, automates placement of elements,
facilitates data sourcing, and interoperates with customer facility data models.
There is potential to save up to $250,000 a year using the application.
