INNOVATION IN UTILITIES
American Electric Power
Tracker
American Electric Power created the Tracker tool to link 3D design models to
its ordering software. Tracker associates graphical/non-cellular/non-graphical
material, places cells from 72 different 2D and 3D cell libraries, scans files,
exports to Excel, and communicates extensively with the ordering software as
well as drawing and multiple other features.
Design teams from Gahanna, Ohio, Roanoke Va., and Tulsa, Okla., collaborated
with the Gahanna I T staff to design Tracker using MicroStation. Although
Tracker challenged the team’s design and development creativity and personnel
capacity, the tool has greatly increased productivity and efficiency on
implemented projects. With the rollout of the tool to the standards department,
American Electric Power expects to see dramatic increases in design efficiency.
Erogasmet
The Quantum Leap From Paper to Web in One Step
Brescia, Italy
One of the top 10 gas companies in Italy, Gruppo Erogasmet managed a
2,500-kilometer gas network throughout 60 municipalities with paper-based
processes. The goal of this project was to replace these processes with a
complete geospatial infrastructure for both internal and external users. The
project team also implemented a new work process for the company.
Bentley’s Professional Services helped implement a powerful solution at an
affordable entry price for optimal return on investment. All paper drawings
were vectorized and imported to Bentley PowerMap as well as to a web-based
solution using Geo Web Publisher for use by dozens of third-party suppliers.
