INNOVATION IN UTILITIES
AKSA, a natural gas distributor based in Istanbul, Turkey, operates a GIS-
based integrated information system for managing assets and infrastructure,
customer information, billing and finance, and stock maintenance and
repair. The main objective of this project was to follow up all assets for the
maintenance and operation period, get correct addresses for the natural
gas subscriptions, and generate accurate statistical reports required by the
MicroStation provided both CAD and GIS functionality, enabling the project
team to manage thousands of photogrammetric maps, cadastral maps, raster
images, and orthophotos. Bentley Geospatial Server and Bentley PowerMap
were used for rules-based data creation. All GIS data was published in
Geo Web Publisher. The ANABIS system now provides quick and accurate
information about natural gas assets.
Edwards 345kV Bus Duct (ZigZag Cable)
Bartonville, Illinois, United States
A 30-mile line that runs from the Duck Creek power plant to the Tazewell
substation in central Illinois is critical to the stability of power supply for the
Peoria, Ill., area. When the bus duct failed as a result of a lightning strike, Ameren
teams investigated options for putting the 345-kilovolt line back in service.
Within a week a solution was installed, despite maintaining above-ground
clearance and staying safely below the circuits exiting the Edwards switchyard.
Using CAD software familiar to the design team—including MicroStation and
Bentley Descartes—provided better design visualization in a situation where
safety was a top priority. For document review and approval, Bentley Redline
and Bentley View enabled faster design-to-construction. Ameren project teams
typically realized a one- to two-week time savings using the Bentley toolset.
