Pune Bus Rapid Transit System
Pune Municipal Corporation is implementing the $20 million Bus Rapid Transit
System for the city of Pune, India, to improve mobility and provide sustainable
transport. The 125-kilometer system will increase the corridor carrying capacity
by at least 30 to 50 percent as well as reduce congestion, increase safety, and
be environment friendly.
Mott MacDonald provided detailed planning and design of the rapid transit lane
and associated facilities for 78 kilometers of the corridor using MXROAD for
lane configuration/alignment and traffic engineering. Stakeholder consultations
regarding integration of these facilities with the existing road network required
several design permutations, but MXROAD simplified the updating of designs,
cross sections, and plan views.

Marina Coastal Expressway
Singapore
With five lanes in each direction, the 5-kilometer Marina Coastal Expressway
will provide scenic views of Singapore straits while linking proposed
developments on Marina Bay to the rest of the island. Mott MacDonald is
the design consultant for three of the six design/build contracts, providing
engineering services for 3 kilometers of roads, including 2 kilometers of twin-cell box tunnel, two ventilation buildings, and slip roads.
In addition to construction in high-density urban areas, the design team faced
the challenge of tunneling up to 20 meters beneath the sea bed just 150 meters
from the Marina Barrage dam, which will periodically release water. Using
MXROAD, the designers not only overcame these challenges but reduced
design and analysis time to 20 to 30 percent of total design time.
