INNOVATION IN ROADS
Conseil General de la Dordogne
From 2D to 3D for a New Road Diversion
To define the impact of a new road diversion project in Dordogne, France,
the project team used 3D modeling to pre-visualize the project in a real
environment. These visualizations were presented to decision makers and
elected officials for validation.
MicroStation and MXROAD developed complex terrain models, which allowed
the team to complete the entire workflow of the project, from data creation to
3D visualization. The goal of this project was achieved, and Bentley technologies
are now the preferred technology to be used on upcoming road projects.
Conseil General de l’Isère
Road Designing in a Complex Environment
Grenoble, France
A new 3 million euro commuter road in Grenoble, France, will simplify access to
the local hospital to improve emergency service. To gain buy-in from decision
makers and elected officials, the project team created a visualization of how
this infrastructure project would impact the surrounding environment. This
visualization was included in documentation submitted to the Conseil General.
One of the challenges for the design team was to minimize the noise from the
road and to optimize the limited space. MicroStation and Bentley Descartes
created a 3D model of the project so the project team was able to demonstrate
how the design would minimize impact on the environment while improving
traffic flow within the project corridor.
