Meeting the basic human needs of all people in the world means more and better infrastructure, which requires a global pool of
infrastructure professionals armed with effective knowledge and tools. Critical to expanding the pool of infrastructure professionals
is both attracting students to the infrastructure professions and providing them with the appropriate education in the infrastructure
professions to enable them to contribute to global sustainability.
The most fundamental requirement in the long term is to attract young students to the sciences and ultimately the technical fields,
such as infrastructure engineering. Just one of Bentley’s approaches includes supporting educational programs to promote interest
in science and math through competitions such as the Be Awards of Excellence.
This year’s academic awards once again recognized the innovative and technically advanced projects created by students from a
spectrum of schools around the world. Similar to the professional awards, academic winners were selected by an independent panel of
jurors made up of professional engineers and university professors. In addition, a Be Award was presented to the Educator of the Year.
