INNOVATION IN UTILITIES AND COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS
transmission Standard Designs to v8/XM
this project has helped Western Power be more efficient through the
implementation of training and better use of CAD standards, cells, and reference
files. The goal was to develop template drawings and standard drawings for
the design of a zone substation and terminal yards to streamline the planning,
procurement, design, construction, and maintenance of these assets.
Due to the long track record and reliability of MicroStation, the CAD group
in Western Power sees this as the ongoing preferred design tool of the
organization. Compared to previous projects, the new standard designs have
achieved time and design cost savings of over 30 percent on most sites.
In addition, problems with data integrity have been reduced, as have the
associated cost of data management.

Integrated Underground Pipeline Information System in Xi’an
the goal of this project was to establish an integrated underground pipeline
information system in Xi’an, China, to create pipeline census data, assist with
the inspection of lines, and allow the maintenance and dynamic update of
integrated pipeline data. The system will allow the centralized management of
a geographic information and underground pipeline database.
MicroStation provided 2D and 3D graphics-editing functions and visualization
for all aspects of pipeline mapping, displays, and inquiries. The professional
pipe network system developed by the MicroStation DL and the VBA
secondary development language in MicroStation provided analysis and
statistical tools that enhanced the efficiency of pipeline facilities management
and met day-to-day maintenance and management requirements.
