INNOVATION IN UTILITIES AND COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS
Dubai Electricity & Water Authority
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DE WA) uses MicroStation to build and
manage land base and facility information for its operations spanning the
Emirate of Dubai. DE WA’s mapping and asset management efforts started
early with asset information represented on paper maps. Eventually, DE WA
converted its paper maps to digital format.
MicroStation was chosen as the preferred platform to digitize and store digital
data by DE WA in 1993. DE WA continues to use MicroStation software and
data for performing business-critical functions. Two functions that are integral
to the GIS effort at DE WA are the maintenance of a land base for Dubai and
the maintenance of electric and water facilities.

E.ON Hanse AG
Bentley sisNET for E.ON Hanse
the goal of this project was to document the electric, gas, district heating,
water, and communications network utilities in a large region of Germany.
E.ON Hanse has a service area of approximately 30,000 square kilometers,
which includes a densely populated area of Hamburg. All the documentation
should be available for more than 600 internal and external users, including
engineering companies and municipalities. A large amount of data is involved,
including 75,000 kilometers of pipes and traces.
Bentley sisNE T supports the asset management and planning. It is the
only system providing the information asked by the legal authorities
(Bundesnetzagentur). The data is digitized with Bentley sisNE T and placed in
more than 100 tiled data sets (raster and DGN data) encompassing more than
60,000 DGN files.
